Wearable Technology is a growing trend and in April 2015 the Vandrico Wearable Technologies database (http://vandrico.com/wearables) listed 296 devices that have been created and sold for fitness, medical, entertainment, gaming and educational purposes. Google Glasses, Fitbit, Garmin, Apple Watch, Oculus Rift, Striiv, iHealth Activity and Sleep Tracker, Narrative Clip, Run and Read and Addidas Smart Run are only a few of the many devices that have gained widespread popularity among people of all ages and across a range of professions. "All of these products provide wireless connectivity, on-board analytics, and interface for hands-free feedback that avail a wide range of opportunities for educators" (Bower, M., 2015).
Ultimately, "wearable technologies provide educators with the capacity to access, interact, manipulate, and create content seamlessly while in the process of teaching. They point out that students correspondingly have the ability to record their lesson activities, search the Internet for clarification of a concept during a class, or take notes while working in a team that can be shared with all members" (Bower, M., 2015). |
